Released in 1991, Gallop - Armed Police Unit (or Cosmic Cop in its US localization) was another in a long line of innovative IREM shooters. The only shooter this is somewhat similar to is Raizing's Kingdom Grandprix (A.K.A. Shippu Mahou Daisakusen), released 3 years later. You may recognize the art and style of this game. Many of its developers would later go on to form Nazca Corporation and create the Metal Slug series. The composer of its catchy soundtrack, Takushi Hiyamuta, helped produce the soundtracks for the first 3 Metal Slug games. This game is a heavy memorizer that rewards the player for playing close to the edge of the screen and memorizing pretty much everything. Speed (how fast a stage scrolls) is controlled by where the ship is located on the horizontal axis of the screen. Some people are really put off by games like this, but I find it to be a great adrenaline rush. Graphical issues (the score bar running along the top of the screen, in particular) are due to incomplete emulation of the game back when I recorded this on an ancient build of MAME.
