i also never felt any need even for irc back in the days. so i really prefer the fediverse as it stands. 😁

at least suggest the fediverse first!

i never implied to use nothing else, you could simply offer unofficial channels everywhere else.

I'll address these one by one:

1. We have Telegram/IRC bridges if you'd like to use those to communicate.
2. There currently is no ideal chat solution, I completely agree. However, Discord and Matrix I've seen seem to be by far the ones most used in these circles and in my opinion, removing all barriers to effective communication (making people register for a new platform which they may not even check) takes top priority. We cannot allow perfect to be the enemy of good, and I think effectively organizing is more impactful than switching people over to Telegram in this case.
3. Once again bridges are far from ideal, but I find they're an effective compromise for most people.
4. As for "why not the Fediverse today", because there's still a relative drought as far as content and instances go, especially for platforms which aren't Mastodon/Pleroma. This becomes doubly so when the topic of discussion is no longer tech. A bigger network means more people to talk to, it means more stuff to discuss, it means it's easier to get friends to switch over. And also, part of this is also tapping into that sort of community to do stuff that's fun, whether it be making content or discussing ways to expand reach. And without this sort of push, platforms can stagnate and be out-competed in the long-run.
5. As for the Twitter thing, that's kind of the point. Twitter has money to throw around, we don't, so we have to look to alternative ways to coordinate the different components of building a platform. A chat helps with that in that it opens more direct lines of communication, but it also helps foster community, which is in and of itself rewarding.

hate discord, and together with matrix both don't work on mobile.

if you need a chat platform, either go with telegram for now, or we will need something made for mobile on the fediverse.

telegram and discord have a very similar core issue: both use bad licenses and closed source.

matrix also have all the same issues as irc: they get too technical and terrible ux for regular users.

and please, don't use bridges. they ruin the experience as well.

in any and all cases, why not just stick with the fediverse as it stands today?! mastodon and pleroma work great, and twitter never needed a chat to create momentum beyond the artificial Investments.

We treat decentralization as if our target audience is users from centralized platforms.

That's not it.

Instead we need to ask ourselves, what does communities want? How do we design around communities? How can we make these platforms appealing for the average person?
